"404 - User No Longer Available" (toni-cipriani)

This morning, service interval was still showing 11000kms, but out of nowhere, earlier tonight it went to 900kms, then 800kms after driving another few kilometres down the street.
Service required said “Rear Brake Pad Service”, but I checked there’s still a lot of pad left it seems? I did do my brake fluid recently, and fronts were replaced by the dealer as I complained the pedal was pulsating during the test drive.
Bad sensor?
EDIT 1: Another question, if I want to inspect the brakes from inside, I still shouldn’t need to take the caliper off right?

Probably ate thru the sensor. It’s inserted into one of the pads behind the rotor. Once the pad wears down to a certain point, a coating on the sensor is removed by the rotor, grounding the sensor thus the service required notification. In my experience with BMW’s the pad behind the rotor wears faster than the visible pad on the front. So you can’t really go by what you can see just looking thru the wheel.

Thanks. I’ll take the wheel off this weekend.
Any suggestions on pads? Currently looking at ATE 603859, Akebono EUR1613 or Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramic 10512670. Used Hawk Ceramic before and they somehow squeal like no tomorrow. Also the Akebono has a footnote saying “includes sensor”

As it turns out I got the part for the Centric wrong, should be 105.16130...

I wouldn’t mind it if dealer retail pricing isn’t so high in Canada. Most of the time I go with AC Delco parts off Amazon for Kristin.

In the US at least there are some dealers that sell online for significantly less than what you would pay at the parts counter. It has been a while since I sold my 335i so I can’t recall any off the top of my head. I would imagine they do the same in Canada.

I know some GM dealers do online, and list the “trade price”, but then on top add a massive shipping and handling. Had some successes price matching at my local dealer.
Haven’t seen similar for BMW though. There are a few aftermarket shops that specialize in German parts. I’m waiting on a quote from my indie shop.

So you were spot on. :)
One pad was indeed done and sensor’s touching. Off to order some parts now...
Thanks again.

Cool Carbon makes some good street pads. About 50% less brake dust, and no squealing.

I actually went with Stoptech Posi-Quiet Ceramic, some used it and said they’re decent. But I screwed up the order and got Convertible rotors instead. Need to go fix the order now and source the right ones...
